Accessibility Statement

Last updated: January 2025

Our commitment

This website is designed to be accessible to as wide an audience as possible, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines where practicable.

Features built into this site

  • Skip-to-content link at the top of every page for keyboard users
  • Semantic HTML5 landmarks (header, main, nav, footer) for screen reader navigation
  • All interactive elements are keyboard-focusable with visible focus indicators
  • Images and decorative SVGs use appropriate alt text or are marked aria-hidden
  • Colour contrast meets WCAG AA requirements for normal and large text
  • Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • Mobile-first responsive layout — usable on any screen size
  • No content relies solely on colour to convey meaning

Known limitations

Some embedded content (such as Google Maps links) is provided by third parties and may not fully meet accessibility standards. We provide text alternatives for all map-linked content.

PDF documents (where available) may not yet be fully accessible. We are working to remediate these.

Physical accessibility

Both consulting locations are accessible to patients with mobility limitations:

  • CBD (Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital): Lift access, wheelchair-accessible entrance and consultation rooms.
  • Cape Gate: Ground-floor consulting rooms, accessible parking adjacent to the entrance.

Please advise the practice team of any specific requirements when booking so we can ensure your visit is comfortable.
