SLATE Surgical Training Centre
Founded by Prof Stephen Jeffery — Southern Africa's dedicated centre for advanced laparoscopic and urogynaecological surgical skills training.

Prof Jeffery founded SLATE (Surgical Laparoscopic and Advanced Training Environment) Surgical Training Centre in response to a well-documented gap in structured postgraduate surgical training across Southern Africa.
The ability to perform minimally invasive surgery — laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy, sacrocolpopexy — requires dedicated, supervised skills development that goes beyond what most registrar programmes provide. SLATE fills that gap.
Operating from Cape Town, SLATE provides hands-on workshops, cadaveric courses, box-trainer simulation, and mentored operating sessions for postgraduate trainees and established specialist surgeons seeking to develop or refine advanced laparoscopic skills.
